If your child's friend has lice, check your child's hair with a fine-toothed comb. Treat only if you find live lice. Tell the friend's parents (discreetly) so they can treat. Avoid head-to-head contact until both are clear.
Check your hair (and your child's) using the wet combing method: conditioner, fine comb, good light. Comb from roots to ends and wipe the comb on a tissue to spot lice or eggs. One live louse means treatment is needed.
It can take 2–4 weeks for itching to start. Some people never itch. Regular checks — especially after sleepovers or close play — help catch infestations early. Use our head lice checker for an indicative result.
