Parents and carers often ask why products fail, why lice keep coming back, and how to prevent spread. The answers: resistance to old insecticides, missed eggs or reinfestation, and treating everyone at once.
Many over-the-counter products use permethrin or similar insecticides. Head lice have developed resistance in many areas. Switch to silicone- or oil-based products or wet combing — they work by suffocation or physical removal, not chemicals.
Usually it's reinfestation: someone in the household still has lice, or a friend at school does. Treat all infested people at the same time. Check weekly. Avoid head-to-head contact during outbreaks. Worth confirming before you treat. Expert help is available when you need it.
