Some research suggests dimethicone-resistant lice may be emerging, but it's not widespread. Silicone-based products still work for most people. Wet combing remains a reliable alternative that doesn't depend on chemical action.
Dimethicone works by coating lice and blocking their breathing pores. Unlike insecticides, resistance was thought unlikely. A few studies have reported reduced efficacy in some populations — more data is needed.
If a silicone product doesn't work, try wet combing consistently for two weeks, or switch to another silicone or oil-based brand. Ensure you're repeating treatment after 7–10 days. Stubborn? Clinics can help. Confirm before treating.
