TL;DR
Dogs cannot get human head lice. Lice are species-specific: human lice only live on humans; dog lice only on dogs. Different species, different hosts.
Human and animal blood differences
Human head lice (Pediculus humanus capitis) feed on human blood. Dog lice (e.g. Linognathus setosus) are a different species and live on dogs. They don't cross over.
Lice species
If your dog is scratching, it could be fleas, mites, or dog lice — not human head lice. Treat human head lice with silicone- or oil-based products or wet combing. Not sure? Check first. For hands-on help, find a clinic near you.
