An itchy scalp has many causes: dandruff, eczema, product buildup, psoriasis, or head lice. Check for lice with a wet comb first — it's quick and rules out the most common cause in children.
Dandruff, dry skin, eczema, contact dermatitis, and psoriasis can all cause itching. So can head lice. The only way to rule out lice is to comb through the hair and look.
Seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) can cause flakes and itching. If a wet comb finds no lice, consider other causes and see a pharmacist or GP. Checker for an indicative result. Clinics can help.
