Description
The Nit Free Terminator is one of the most widely sold metal lice combs, and it is sold in both the UK and the US. The manufacturer describes it as a professional-grade stainless-steel comb with micro-grooved teeth designed to grip lice and nits.
There is some independent evidence behind the design. A 2013 study in Parasitology Research compared four commercial combs and found the ASSY metal comb removed more lice and eggs than the other combs tested; the manufacturer states that ASSY and Nit Free Terminator share the same design. That study was small and compared combs in pairs, so it supports the design rather than proving this comb will clear every infestation. As with any comb, results depend on careful technique and repeat sessions.
Pros
- Linked design (ASSY) performed best in an independent 2013 comb comparison
- Long, closely spaced stainless-steel teeth with micro-grooves for gripping nits
- Reusable and can be cleaned thoroughly between sessions
- Available to buy in both the UK and the US
Cons
- The ASSY equivalence is the manufacturer's statement and was not independently verified
- Manual combing takes time, especially on long or curly hair
- Fine metal teeth can feel firm on a sensitive scalp; detangle first
- The official site gives no age guidance or detailed pack instructions
How to use
- 1.Detangle the hair completely with an ordinary brush or wide-toothed comb first.
- 2.For wet combing, wash with ordinary shampoo and apply plenty of conditioner, leaving the hair wet. If you are using a medicated treatment, follow its label first.
- 3.Divide the hair into four sections and work through small sub-sections, starting each stroke at the scalp and combing slowly to the ends.
- 4.Wipe the comb on white tissue after every pass and repeat each section until several passes come out clear.
- 5.Repeat on the NHS schedule (days 1, 5, 9 and 13, final check on day 17), and clean and dry the comb fully after each session.
